If you love beaches and a sunny climate, consider a visit to the Whangaparoa Peninsula, just forty minutes north of Auckland. This is a narrow parcel of land which stretches from the mainland in an east-west direction. On each side there are magnificent beaches. Due to the geography and location, the climate is noticeably drier and sunnier than Auckland city, making this an ideal place to enjoy the beaches on a holiday or day trip.
Whangaparaoa is not often visited by international tourists. It has now become a virtual extension of Auckland city itself and has a large resident population. However it also has something of a 'seaside village' charm.
