End of a Great Summer in New Zealand

Summer in New Zealand is officially over at the end of February. However the weather is still warm and the crowds have gone (except on the weekends), so it's a great time to explore many of New Zealand's beaches.

The best beaches are in the North Island. In fact, the whole coastline of the island is studded with magnificent beaches. The west and east coasts are a real contrast; the east is sheltered and calm with white sandy coves and islands. The west is wild and rugged with large sweeps of coastline and (often) black sand.
