The finger of land known as the Whangaparaoa Peninsula stretches from west to east just north of Auckland. It has a string of beaches, some of the finest in the region. The beaches on the northern side are sunnier, more popular and generally better for swimming and watersports. The beaches on the southern coast are usually quieter.
Although the Whangaparaoa Peninsula is now almost entirely covered in
housing, most of the beaches are fronted by a grassy area (reserve) and
offer facilities such as toilets and showers.
If you're looking for a beachside holiday not too far from Auckland, Whangaparaoa is definitely worth considering.
