Definition: The kauri is the largest of New Zealand's native trees. It can grow to more than 164 feet in height and up to 50 feet in girth. It grew extensively over the northern half of the North Island until the arrival of the European in the late 1700s and 1800s. Now only a few pockets of forest remain.
